Magic Round has come and gone, and what a spectacle of rugby league that it was. All four of the Queensland teams failed to record a win over the weekend at Suncorp; five if we include the women’s State of Origin team (which we definitely will)! We’re now a third of the way through the 2025 NRL Competition, and the ladder is starting to take shape. There are some prime top of the table clashes this week, combined with some key clashes as the cellar-dwellers fight to keep their season alive. Let’s dive in and take a look at all the tips and predictions for Round 10 of the National Rugby League from the team here at Jersey’s Megastore.
Parramatta Eels v Dolphins:
The Eels and the Dolphins will kick off Round 10 on Sunday night in a battle of 17th v 14th place. Parramatta are desperate to avoid the spoon after only just escaping 2024 without it, and the Dolphins are equally as eager to get their season back on track. Parramatta fought valiantly before going down to a Sharks team that boasted Nicho Hynes best game of the year, while three late tries disguised the demolition job that the Roosters did to the Dolphins. With the home field advantage, and Mitchell Moses keeping one eye on a State of Origin selection, it’s hard to look past the Eels in this one! I’m tipping Parramatta by 6 points.
Newcastle Knights v Gold Coast Titans:
Another two teams who will be genuine spoon contenders if they can’t click into gear fast are the Newcastle Knights and the Gold Coast Titans. Newcastle managed to put away a Souths line-up riddled with injuries and suspension with relative ease, but the Gold Coast come into this game fresh off a 20-point hiding by the Bulldogs. The back-line for the Knights is star studded, and are capable of performing far better than what they are. Was Magic Round the game they needed to finally gel? Until the Titans show some sort of cohesion as a team and not just running out as 13 individuals, I can’t see myself tipping them any time soon. I’m tipping the Knights by 14 points.
South Sydney Rabbitohs v Brisbane Broncos:
Both sides in this match up were restricted to just one try each over the weekend gone. Brisbane fell victim to a Panthers team rekindling their 2023 form, while the Rabbitohs result ought to be taken with a grain of salt given the players they were missing. The Broncs have been hit and miss in 2025 so far, but when they hit, they hit hard. While Souths are still going to be down on troops, it’s looking like this mountain may be too steep to climb this week as Brisbane come in with a near full squad and the potential for an Ezra Mam return. The Broncos will no doubt be put to the sword by Madge at training and come out firing this week.. I’m tipping the Broncos by 24 points.
Canberra Raiders v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs:
The top of the table clash! First takes on second! The Raiders have won five on the trot, and look just as likely as anyone to take out the premiership. They’ve performed outstandingly well of late, especially after they managed to knock off Melbourne in Magic Round to keep their undefeated streak at the Suncorp Spectacle. This week will prove a different challenge altogether though as the take on the first placed Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs. The Dogs still boast the best defence in the competition, and will welcome back Matt Burton into the side. The last two times these sides have met, it’s been split one win apiece, with 4 points being the deciding margin in both games. This has all the hallmarks of being a modern day classic in the Nation’s capital. While realistically either side could win this game, I think the scramble defence of the Dog’s may be enough to get them over the line here. I’m tipping the Bulldogs by 2 points.
St George Illawarra Dragons v New Zealand Warriors:
The Dragons have been another hit and miss side in 2025. On their day, they have knocked off some of the top sides in this competition. They’ve also lost to the last place side this year. This week they take on the third placed Warriors at home. It’s the exact kind of clash that Shane Flannagan could get his side up and about for. On the other side of the coin though, the Wahs just keep finding a way to win. They’ve done it hard, and they’ve gone toe to toe with the big dogs too, and come out victorious in their own right. This game will ultimately come down to which Dragons side turns up; the world beaters or the cellar-dwellars. The certainty coming into this game is the form that the Warriors carry coming into the match. Luke Metcalf is playing the best football of his career, and that form is what we’re going to follow going into this game. I’m tipping the Warriors by 13 points.
North Queensland Cowboys v Penrith Panthers:
Write them off at your own perile. The Panthers have a mammoth task in front of them in order to make the finals, but they showed the rugby league world on Sunday that they’re still here. The Cowboys on the other hand, were dominated in the first half by the Warriors before fighting their way back to only go down by 4. A valiant effort to recover their second half. North Queensland have been playing some very good attacking football this year, and have scored a lot of points. Their defence is where they have let themselves down. That is going to be what lets them down again this week I feel as they take on a side that looks to have recovered the systems that won them 4 straight premierships. I’m tipping the Panthers by 22 points.
Melbourne Storm v Wests Tigers:
The Tigers managed to scrape away with the win in Magic Round, which is more than their opposition for this week can say. In the most unlike Melbourne performance of recent memory, the Storm lost to the Raiders off the back of, of all things, a lack of discipline. Notoriously one of the most disciplined sides in the NRL, coached by the ultimate taskmaster in Craig Bellamy, it was frankly remarkable to watch. Making the trip to Melbourne to take on the Storm in Melbourne is never easy… it may be the hardest task in rugby league when they are coming off back to back losses. Melbourne simply do not lose three games in a row. The come back this week will be tremendous. Munster, Papenhuyzen and Hughes will all be coming out hunting for vengeance. Look away Tigers fans. I’m tipping Melbourne by 40 points.
Manly Warringah Sea Eagles v Cronulla Sharks:
A battle of the beaches will close out Round 10 of the NRL as the Manly Sea Eagles take on the Cronulla Sharks. Manly will play at home for the 6th time in 9 games this week, and they have looked incredibly comfortable at 4 Pines Park in 2025. Cronulla come into the contest off the back of a solid win against Parramatta but will find themselves with a much harder challenge this week. Despite sitting in 6th, I haven’t been blown away by the Sharks so far this year, as they have continued to struggle against top eight teams. With DCE and Turbo both available, it’s hard to see Manly losing at home. I’m tipping the Sea Eagles by 16 points.
