NRL Round 6 Tips and Predictions

Apr 08, 2025

What a week of Rugby League football! Tipping is proving harder than ever right now with upsets galore coming in week after week. The Panthers just can’t seem to get going in 2025, while Parramatta managed to knock off a side that knocked off Melbourne, and the Bulldogs may never lose again! There’s another cracking weekend of NRL football ahead for us this week, so let’s dive in and take a look at the latest tips and predictions from Jerseys Megastore!

Dolphins v Penrith Panthers:
Round 6 kicks off on Thursday night at Suncorp Stadium as the Dolphins host the Penrith Panthers. The tale of the tape reads Penrith 2, Dolphins 0 but the Panthers have not had an easy time fighting off the Redcliffe side in their two previous clashes. The Dolphins looked to have found some serious strike power last week as they demolished the in form Titans, while the Panthers seem to be struggling hard on both sides of the ball. Some pundits have even suggested if they’re going to win games, Nathan Cleary needs to “dumb down” his ball playing, in order to accommodate the less talented side he is now working with. While you never want to write off a champion, recent form indicates this can only go one way. I’m tipping the Dolphins by 8 points

St George Illawarra Dragons v Gold Coast Titans:
In perhaps one of the most Dragons things ever, after beating competition favourites Melbourne Storm, the Red V managed to find a way to lose to the winless Parramatta Eels on the weekend… in golden point no less. The Gold Coast on the other hand, after some recent form were simply outclassed by the Dolphins at home. The Dragons will be left hurting after going down to a Zac Lomax field goal, and will be looking to reignite their season this week, as they take on another team that will be fighting for top eight contention come the back end of the season. Both sides lack experience in the halves, but the Dragons boast some serious experience in the rest of their backline, while the Titans flex one of the biggest forward packs in the comp. I suspect it will be a physical battle on Friday night, and I’m tipping the Dragons by 14 points

Brisbane Broncos v Sydney Roosters:
The Broncos return to Suncorp Stadium for the second week in a row, after absolutely running riot on the Tigers there last week. A seven try onslaught saw them get the job done with ease, even if the Tigers managed to score a couple of late tries. The Roosters on the other hand, went down to Souths in the dying moments off the back of a line ball decision not going their way. Despite injuries to key players, the Roosters are not going to allow the sub par efforts to continue as they swing the axe this week; Coach Robinson having announced that Dom Young and Chad Townsend will both be dropped to reserve grade this week. I expect to see an improved Roosters attack this week, with perhaps a bit more cohesion. However, I don’t think they will be quite up to the challenge of the Broncos in Brisbane this Friday night. I’m tipping the Broncos by 16 points

Cronulla Sharks v Manly Warringah Sea Eagles:
The revenge tour of both sides with collide this week as they head over to Perth. Both considered top four favourites when the competition commenced, Cronulla come into the clash off the back of two straight losses; while the Sea Eagles come into it off the back of an absolute pantsing at home as Melbourne ran in 3 tries in 5 minutes, only to run in another 5 tries in 14 minutes later in the game to amass 48 points at 4 Pines Park. The last two matches between these sides are split 1 apiece, and will likely be a nail biter this week. Can Nicho take control of the Sharks side and steer them home? Or will DCE flex his experience to guide Manly back on course? Personally I think Cronulla looked pretty ordinary in Canberra last week on both sides of the ball, and Manly are too experienced to let last week rattle them. I’m tipping the Ses Eagles by 10 points

South Sydney Rabbitohs v North Queensland Cowboys:
The second of two games at Optus Stadium this week. Souths will likely struggle over the next few weeks after both of their halves, in Jamie Humphreys and Cody Walker sustained hamstring injuries, along with winger Mikaele Ravalawa. Reports on who will play in the halves this week are mixed with Latrell Mitchell and Jack Wighton both training in the roles on Monday, but the club is also currently paying Lewis Dodd a cool million a year to play reserve grade, maybe it’s time he is called upon? The Cowboys though, come into this game full of confidence after knocking off Penrith by 4 points last week; and having managed to knock Souths off the last two times they’ve met, history indicates they may very well go for the three-peat on Saturday. Coming in with more stability around their playing side, North Queensland have started to gel in recent weeks. I’m tipping the Cowboys by 8 points

Parramatta Eels v Canberra Raiders:
The third of the unique venue games of Round 6, as Parramatta play host to the Raiders in Darwin this week. Historically, Parramatta struggle big time in their Darwin games. The climate doesn’t seem to agree with them up there. Despite still sitting last on the NRL Ladder, the Eels did manage to notch up their first win of the year over the Dragons last week though. Conversely, the Raiders fought out a victory of their own in difficult fashion against the Sharks. After successfully defending their line and not conceding a try while Hudson Young was in the Sin Bin, the Raiders very much deserved to win that game… even if they left it as late as they possibly could to get over the line! Parramatta have found a bit of attacking strike in Josh Addo-Carr and Dylan Walker, but the Raiders flex solid attack of their own. This game will be won on the back of defence, and who can hold out the longest. Based on that metric, I’m tipping the Raiders by 12 points

Melbourne Storm v New Zealand Warriors:
The Warriors need to make the hardest trip in Rugby League this week, as they head to Melbourne to take on the Storm. The Wahs come into the match fresh off the bye, and 3 straight wins before that. They sit pretty in the top four right now, but could find it difficult to keep that spot. Melbourne come into this game firing on all cylinders right now. Their attack looks unstoppable once it gets on a roll, and the Melbourne spine is looking incredible. Defence hasn’t been the strength of the Warriors so far this year, and while they have a lot of strike power, I don’t think they’ll have enough to run down the score that Melbourne can put on them this week. I’m tipping the Storm by 16 points

Newcastle Knights v Wests Tigers:
Closing out Round 6 of the NRL in 2025 will be the Newcastle Knights, taking on the Wests Tigers at McDonald Jones stadium. The Knights come into this game off the back of being held scoreless at Accor Stadium by the unbeaten Bulldogs. The Tigers on the other hand, despite being thrashed by the Broncos, will welcome back star halfback Jarome Luai from suspension which should add some stability back into the side. Some serious questions are starting to arise around the Newcastle attack, having managed to score just one try since Round 3. Teams have started to work out how to shut down Kalyn Ponga and the Knights attack; will the Tigers be good enough to follow suit? Benji Marshall’s side seem to have no problem scoring points themselves however, so if they can manage to keep that ball rolling this week, I think they should find themselves heading home with a win on Sunday night. I’m tipping the Tigers by 13 points

What a round it’s shaping up to be in the 2025 NRL season! With upsets becoming the norm and form lines shifting week to week, tipping has never been tougher, but that’s exactly what makes it so exciting. So whether you’re backing the Dolphins to topple the Panthers or banking on the Storm to keep their red-hot form alive, there’s no shortage of storylines heading into Round 6.
