It’s no secret that at Jersey’s Megastore we love all things footy jerseys; retro, modern, home, away, alternate, special occasions, and more. So in this series of blogs, we’re gonna take a look at the top five best jerseys for each club since the year 2000, and where better to start than with one of the biggest clubs in the NRL, the Brisbane Broncos. Famous for their maroon and yellow designs, they’ve had some absolute doozies, and some absolute duds in the last twenty-five years. We’ve gone through them all, and here are our picks for the top five!
Number 5: Coming in at number five is a Bronco classic, the 2000 Home jersey, from the very same year they won the premiership. With the maroon shoulders and chest, and the yellow stomach featuring the white chevrons, it really doesn’t get more quintessential Brisbane Bronco than this! The old school white collar add a touch of class to an already stylish jersey, and it’s easy to see why it’s retro remake is a favourite amongst the fans!
Number 4: Coming in at number four is the 2018 Indigenous Jersey, featuring the ‘Yarning Circle’ and designed by Charlie Chambers, this jersey is an absolute icon of Broncos history. The design of the jersey was supposed to depict communities being drawn together, in turn helping benefit the health of their people. It was supported by a partnership with the Deadly Choices organisation, and is one that the Broncs will no doubt be proud of!
Number 3: Our third pick is another one the club should be tremendously proud of, it’s the 2017 ANZAC Jersey. Featuring a white silhouette of marching diggers, and a maroon camouflage background, this jersey really stood out amongst the pack for that year. The Broncos have a long, and special relationship with the military, as their Red Hill base is only minutes from the barracks of Enoggera. The club really paid a remarkable tribute to the sacrifices of the ANZACs with this strip.
Number 2: Cracking into the prestigious top two of the best Broncos jerseys this century, is the 2014 Women in League Jersey. The pink strip replacing the original home jersey for the season, embracing the importance of breast cancer awareness, as well as acknowledging the invaluable role women play in the sport of rugby league. The Broncos intended to encourage and inspire women to achieve anything in their chosen fields. The jersey was a true testament to the club’s commitment to their community.
Number 1: Our number one pick for the best Brisbane Broncos jersey this century was far and away the 2002 Alternate jersey. It’s different, it’s not what you’d expect and we love it. The Broncos took a risk with this teal and blue look, and it really paid off. They opted to keep the collar, white chevrons and club logo which, despite being so different, still managed to make it undeniably Bronco at the same time. We applaud the bravery for this whacky and wonderful design!
