Roosters 2025 Castore Indigenous Jersey
About the artwork: Kevin Stevens Rooster #637
The 4 symbols in the top left represent meeting places and the number of clubs Kevin has played for, South Grafton Rebels, Sydney Roosters, Parramatta Eels and Bilambil.
The 6 ‘star’ symbols scattered through the artwork have two meanings, the first meaning 'stars', some of my earliest childhood memories is star gazing over Jackadgery and Cangai with family, and the number of stars also represents the number of family members.
Both Kevin's parents (James and Edna) and his siblings Aileen, Roger, Terry & of course Kevin.
The 2 circles at the top represent Kevin and his older brother Terry. Both came to Eastern Suburbs as a package deal and wanted to show their connection to each other not only as brothers but through footy.
The symbols around the circles represent their teammates and many supporters over the various years.
The Eel-tailed catfish is our family totem and the water that runs through the artwork represents the river between Jackadgery to Cangai (where our mob are from, the family home where Kevin was raised, a little hut on the hill of the Mann River which is still standing today and is a place for us to come together as a family, to this day there is still no running water or electricity and we love that).
The 6 symbols at the bottom represent Kevin's family. His wife Cathy, daughter Kylie, son Grant and his three grandchildren Ivy, Daisy and Freddy.
I have stayed with traditional roosters’ colours of red, white and blue with accents of beige.
I feel very privileged to be able to design an artwork for my uncle.
Since I can remember I have supported the roosters reading about the many accomplishments both my father and uncle have had during their football careers.

A Gumbaynggirr descendant born and raised on Bundjalung country.
My artworks and the colours and patterns I use are modern contemporary interpretation of my aboriginal culture mostly painting as a hobby for family and friends and as a way to celebrate my heritage.
